Umoja
Who We Are
UMOJA is a forward-looking humanitarian initiative connecting Swiss expertise with East African communities. We are building a practical, locally grounded platform focused on education, clean water, and sustainable food systems, especially for vulnerable populations and in refugee-hosting regions.
Our approach is simple: invest early, work locally, and build solutions that last.
Creating opportunities and opening doors so no one is left behind, because everyone deserves a fair chance.
Umoja is a Swahili word meaning “unity.” It represents the belief that when people come together, they can build stronger communities and create opportunities that last for generations. At Umoja, unity is more than a word—it is a commitment to collaboration, shared responsibility, and lifting each other up. By connecting people, ideas, and resources, we work toward a future where communities grow stronger together.

What makes us different?
Building Opportunity, Not Dependency
Umoja focuses on creating lasting opportunity rather than short-term aid alone. While immediate support like food and education is essential, our mission goes further—helping communities develop the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to build their own future. By combining humanitarian support with education, training, and local empowerment, Umoja works to create sustainable change from within communities themselves.
